Press Release:
Own a piece of TV history: Items from the Celebrity Big Brother House go up for sale on Gumtree.com
Sofa, double bed and unique dining table are available to buy from Gumtree today
The UK’s largest classifieds website, Gumtree.com, is today announcing the sale of 41 items from the Celebrity Big Brother 2015 House, the proceeds of which will go to homeless charity, Crisis UK.
Members of the public can now head over to www.gumtree.com/cbb to view items to be sold from the House and be in for the chance to own a piece of Big Brother history. The items on the show include a gorgeous red and black dining table, a luxurious, velveteen grey living room sofa, as well as a selection of smaller items including a small regal dog statuette, a large swirl mirror and glass coffee table. All range in price from £15 to £5,000.
At the start of December last year, Gumtree offered sellers who were posting an advert in the ‘For Sale’ category the chance to ‘opt in’ and offer to sell their item to Big Brother. Amazingly, Gumtree sellers offered more than 50,000 items to Big Brother and in the end, four items were selected by the show’s Art Directors to complement the series theme of ‘Twisted Fairytales’.
These items were a vintage Fortnum & Mason tea set, an elegant chaise longue, a standout mirrored cube side table and a stylish white twig tree installation in the garden. All four are also available for purchase from today.
Sam Diamond, Head of Brand and Comms at Gumtree.com commented:
“Celebrity Big Brother has already brought us some great action this year, and now we’re delighted to be able to offer Gumtree buyers the chance to own a part of TV history.
The House is always a star of the show, and this year’s ‘Twisted Fairytales’ theme means that it’s full of gorgeous furniture. Now CBB fans can connect directly with the show and own their favourite items from the House using the simplicity of the Gumtree platform.”
The Celebrity Big Brother House items are available for sale like any other product on Gumtree and those interested simply need to reply to the ad by giving their name and number. Channel 5 will pick a winner at random, and complete the sale if the buyers are still willing to pay the price and pick up the item from the Channel 5 warehouse.
Gumtree’s sponsorship of Celebrity Big Brother has seen the company produce a series of creative idents appearing in the ad break featuring everyday items in the home mirroring the typical antics of Big Brother housemates. Gumtree is also launching a Vine video competition today, which asks the public to send Gumtree their own videos of talking furniture using the hashtag #TalkingFurniture and the best entries will win £1,000.
Gumtree will be donating all the proceeds from the sale to Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people.
John Sparkes, Chief Executive at Crisis UK said:
“Homelessness is a devastating experience; it is an isolating and frightening experience and homeless people are too often invisible, ignored and forgotten. Every year Crisis helps thousands of people to rebuild their lives, through our education, employment, health and housing services. We really appreciate the public’s support in helping to fund our work and campaigning with us to make sure homelessness is never ignored.”
Sam Diamond continued:
“The work Crisis is doing for homeless people in the UK is invaluable and we are proud to be donating all proceeds from the sale of the Celebrity Big Brother items to support their cause.”
