Channel 5 deny claims they will AXE Big Brother

Channel 5 bosses deny claims that Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother is set to be axed this year.

The Sun have revealed that Channel 5 bosses ‘will probably’ extend the contract for the show when the current contract expires later this year.

Channel 5 still see the show as a major part of its schedules and will hold talks on the shows future over the coming months.

A Channel 5 spokesperson told Big Blagger that ‘Channel 5 are committed to a further series of Big Brother and of Celebrity Big Brother later this year.’

A Big Brother source told The Sun:

“It’s still a very successful show for Channel 5, with millions of viewers, so obviously there will be discussions with the production company about extending the show beyond that.

“It’s far too early to suggest it’s the end of Big Brother, quite the opposite, so fans can relax.”

“An extension of the deal is likely, it’s just that those conversations haven’t happened yet.”

Planning permission on the Big Brother house at Elstree studios expires on September 30th 2018 – if Endemol want to retain the house past this date they would need to submit a new planning application – a process which can take a couple of months.

The current series of Celebrity Big Brother will come to a close on Friday, February 2nd.
